Private Tuition

Learn Greek 1-1 in person or online.

A minimum of 10 hours should be booked and paid for in advance. Each 10 hour block is to be used within 4 months from the start date. Any block of hours booked is determined by the Terms and Conditions of Private Tuition. Students wishing to book a trial lesson must pay a fee of £60 administration fee. If they decide to proceed with private tuition after the trial lesson, £30 will be deducted from the fee of a 10 hour block. Terms and Conditions for enrolment apply also to private tuition.

Please note that no refund is available once payment has been processed and tuition has started.

Terms & conditions

  1. A minimum of 10 hours has to be booked and paid for in advance. The student can use the 10 hours in any way he/she wishes (e.g. 1 hour once a week, 2hours every fortnight, 2 hours for 5 consecutive days etc) but he/she has to complete the10 hours prepaid block within four months from the start day of tuition.
  2. A trial lesson can be booked, before the students commits to a 10 hour block. The fee for the trial lesson is £60. If the students decides to proceed with the tuition, then £30 of the fee paid for the trial lesson will be deducted from the 10 hour block fee the student will book.
  3. Fees
    Online tuition £30 per hour if the tuition takes place Monday-Friday; £35 if it takes place Saturday or Sunday.
    In-person tuition £30 if the tuition takes place Monday-Friday at the Centre; £35 if it takes place at the student’s house or workplace. In-person private tuition on Saturday or Sunday can take place only at the student’s house or workplace and the fee is £40 per hour.
  4. Refunds
    i) Students are advised to consider carefully their circumstances and personal commitments before enrolment as no cancellation or refund will be possible once the tuition commences.
    ii) A fee refund is possible only if a written cancelation note is received before the start date stated in the contract. The following charges apply: £20 if cancellation note is received 15 days before the tuition commences, £30 if it is received between 15 days and the day before the tuition commences.
  5. Group of two students
    i) A minimum of 10 hours applies also for a group of two students.
    ii) Online tuition £25 per hour, per student if the tuition takes place Monday-Friday; £30 per hour, per student if it takes place Saturday or Sunday.
    iii) In-person tuition £25 per hour, per student if the tuition takes place Monday-Friday at the Centre; £30 per hour, per student if it takes place Monday-Friday at the student’s house or workplace. In-person private tuition on Saturday or Sunday can take place only at the students’ house or workplace and the fee is £35 per hour, per student.
    iv) Students booking private tuition as a group have to attend lessons the same day and time. If any one of the students misses a class, he/she will only be able to make up for it only by booking and paying for an extra lesson.
    Private tuition for a group of more than two students could be discussed.
  6. Changes to the agreed method, timetable, location of tuition are possible only when there is mutual agreement between the student and tutor.The Centre needs to be informed of any such changes as a different hourly fee might apply and the student might need to pay an excess fee.
  7. Once the lessons start the student has to give the Hellenic Centre a 24 hour cancellation notice in the event he/she cannot attend a scheduled session. If the student fails to inform the Centre within the specified period, he/she cannot be refunded for the cancelled session.
  8. In the rare event the Hellenic Centre has to cancel a lesson but is not possible to give adequate notice (24 hour cancellation notice) the student is compensated by an extra hour added to his/her contract.
  9. Online classes
    i) The teacher will inform the student on the platform used for online lessons. At the appointed day and time, the teacher will log in. If the student fails to log in at the appointed time, the teacher will remain connected for 15 minutes. If the student does not log in within these 15 minutes, then the teacher will log off and the student will be charged for the class.
    ii) If the student logs in late, the start time of the lesson is the agreed time and not the time the student log in.
    iii) In the event the connection breaks during the lesson and it is not possible to reconnect within 5minutes, alternative arrangements will be made for any owed time.
  10. In-person classes
    i) If the student fails to arrive at the appointed time, the teacher will wait for 15 minutes. If the student does not arrive within these 15 minutes, then the teacher will leave and the student will be charged for the class.
    ii) If the student arrives late, the start time of the lesson is the agreed time and not the time the student arrives.
  11. At the end of each class the tutor has to notify by email the Centre that the class took place and copy the student. The email should give information of the date, start time and finish time of the class.
  12. All financial and administrative aspects of private tuition, online or in-person, have to be dealt with the offices of the Hellenic Centre.
