Winter Journey by Metapraxis Ensemble
‘A young refugee, stuck on a boat in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, is reading
what’s left from an old diary: remembering/re-learning his/her own life story.’
Their venture with ‘Winter Journey’ continues at Omnibus Theatre (Clapham): a Beckettian presentation of this audiovisual collage, consisting of refugee memories in their
displacement travel to the unknown, songs from Schubert’s ‘Winter Journey’, and newly
composed music for vintage reel-to-reel tape machines, voices and instruments.
This is their second take on the 7th Metapraxis project (a collaborative venture for their 10th year as an ensemble) performed by Neil Georgeson (piano), Angela Hui (percussion), Ilze Ikse
(flutes), and Myrto Loulaki (voice). Blending with a number of Franz Schubert’s lieder from the song-cycle ‘Winterreise’, and with notions from Samuel Beckett’s works
‘Krapp’s Last Tape’ & ‘Ohio Impromptu’, are existing and newly created) compositions by
Lucy Callen, Gregory Emfietzis, Daniel Figols, Christopher Fox, Scott McLaughlin, and Ruta
Vitkauskaite, and Winterreise-inspired images by artist Pip Woolf.
