Her Voice: A Celebration of the Women of Classical Music with the Waldstein Trio

The Waldstein Trio is one of the UK’s most dynamic and acclaimed young piano trios, known for their artistic depth, commitment to new music, and success on the international stage. 

The ensemble rose to prominence in 2022 as the only prize-winners from a London conservatoire at the CAVATINA Intercollegiate Chamber Music Competition at Wigmore Hall. Shortly thereafter, they were awarded the prestigious Carne Trust Junior Fellowship at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. 

In 2023, the Trio won First Prize at the 4th Vienna International Music Competition, leading to a performance at the Musikverein Brahms Saal in Vienna. This milestone led to an invitation to participate in the esteemed Evolution Chamber Music Course at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Canada. 

Following their return to London, and with the continued support of Philip Carne, the Waldstein Trio was offered a second year of Fellowship at Trinity Laban. Their trajectory of international success continued, winning numerous accolades including: 

First Prize – Medici International Music Competition 

Gold Prize & Special Award for Best Professional Chamber Ensemble – Amadeus International Music Awards 

Second Prize – Fanny Mendelssohn International Competition 

Third Prize – Rising Stars Grand Prix 2023 (Berlin) 

First Prize – Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition (Bonn) 

Dedicated to both traditional and contemporary repertoire, the Trio is deeply engaged in performing works by living composers. Recent collaborations include premieres and projects with Sem Hak (Netherlands), Valentina Ciardelli (Italy), and Bruno Heinen (UK), alongside musical partnerships with renowned artists such as Sergio De Simone, Richard Markson, and Raphael Wallfisch. 

Recent highlights include performances of Brahms Piano Quartets in Malta, Shostakovich and Mendelssohn Trios in Canada and Cyprus, a full cycle of Shostakovich chamber works, Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time in London, and concerts at the University of Manchester, Salzburg’s Mozarteum Grosser Saal, and Beethoven-Haus in Bonn. 

In October 2024, the Trio made their Carnegie Hall debut in New York, following their First Prize win at the Manhattan International Music Competition. This led to a two-year management contract with Manhattan Concert Artists in New York. 

The Trio’s debut album, recorded under the Orpheus Classical label, is set for release by the end of 2025.
