Πολίτικα (Politika): More than merely Istanbul Greek

Matthew Hadodo a child of an Istanbul Greek mother, interviewed over 100 people to see how the local variety of the Greek language functions as part of the larger social practices the community members engage in to distinguish themselves from the Turks and other Greeks.

Matthew Hadodo has completed his Phd in sociolinguistics at the University of Pittsburgh and is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for the Study of Language and Society (CSLS), University of Bern. His work focuses on how people use language in relation to how they view themselves and others with a particular focus on the endangered Istanbul Greek dialect.
