Walking Billboards or Wearable History? Paper Dresses from the ATOPOS cvc Collection
Tuesday 19 Feb 2019
A talk by Myrsini Pichou as part of #TextMe_PaperFashion
Fashion and newspaper headlines are both ephemeral. Historically, newspapers, either as a material or source of inspiration, have been used in fancy dress and fashion in imaginative ways. Designers such as Elsa Schiaparelli, John Galliano, Demna Gvasalia and Rei Kawakubo, amongst others, have employed newspaper- printed fabrics in their creations, while various Paper Dresses from the 1960s are adorned with cuttings from the newspapers they promoted.
However, the printed words are not incidental – they bear special meanings. With Paper Dresses from the ATOPOS collection as a starting point, this talk will explore the fascinating relationship between newspapers and fashion.
